What is artificial intelligence?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is software that finds patterns in data and uses them to make predictions or decisions — for example, which word comes next in a sentence, or what object appears in a photo.
Most everyday AI (such as language assistants) uses machine learning: the system adjusts parameters during training until its outputs match examples better. Engineers do not hand-write rules for every situation.

AI, machine learning, and deep learning
- AI — the broad goal: systems that perform tasks that seem “intelligent”.
- Machine learning — learning from examples; covered in mej7.com’s training section.
- Deep learning — ML with deep neural networks; foundation of modern language models.
